Pupil and Sports Premium

Please read the information below which gives details of our Pupil Premium Grant and how we allocate the funding.

What is Pupil Premium?

Pupil Premium is additional funding given to schools to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their peers. It was first introduced in April 2011. Since then the amount schools and academies receive has increased. Schools and academies will receive funding based on the number of pupils who have been eligible for free school meals at any point in the last 6 years.

FUNDING ALLOCATION

  •  £1,345 for each eligible primary aged pupil
  •  £2,345 for each Looked After Child

What is the Sports Premium?

Schools with 17 or more eligible pupils receive £16,000 and an additional payment  per pupil. The funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and will see money going directly to primary school headteachers to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children. The money can only be spent on sport and PE provision in schools.

Purpose of the funding

Schools will have to spend the sport funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this.

Possible uses of the funding include:

  •  Hiring specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work alongside primary teachers when teaching PE
  •  New or additional Change4Life sport clubs
  •  Paying for professional development opportunities in PE/sport
  •  Providing cover to release primary teachers for professional development in PE/sport
  •  Running sport competitions, or increasing participation in the school games
  •  Buying quality assured professional development modules or material for PE/sport
  •  Providing places for pupils on after school sport clubs and residential visits

Recovery Premium

All schools that are eligible for pupil premium are eligible for recovery premium. For every Pupil Premium child school will receive £145.  Our Pupil Premium Strategy document will include intend spend plans

Please read the information below which gives details of our PE and Sport Premium Grant and how we allocate the funding.
